Just Lazy Enough to Come Back

Not so much a blog entry as much as it's random thoughts that I feel like documenting.

1) Kingdom Come rules. So much. I hate probably hate you if you don't like this album.
2) This shirt is fucking epic. WOW

3) The DEATHCYCLE LP is one of the best things released this year (century? ever?)
4) Guitar Hero II will be the death of me

Fuck You, Jive

We've been waiting long enough you dickheads. Give me the fucking Clipse album. Now. I was finally accepting the Halloween release date. I was stoked. And then you fucking push it back again? After their single/video's getting air and they get a perfect score for it, and I'm still going to have to wait until November? Probably longer? Fuck you. I hope they do lynch your asses. I'll buy it, but not happily. But you can bet your ass I'll put it on albumbase the first chance I get.

THE SECOND LEAK

I almost feel bad for Lupe Fiasco. He seemed pretty wrecked when the unfinished Food & Liquor leaked in March. After rumors of a significant push back or even cancelation, it looked like it'd come out on September 19th and all would be well.

And then it leaked again. Poor guy. It kinda rules though if that means anything. I thought it was pretty okay the first time around, but this version is way better. The cover art is still dumb and Lupe still sounds goofy, but it's way better than anything on Def Jux or whatever retarded nerd "Hip-Hop" label has put out lately.

A bunch of songs from the first leak are back. "The Instrumental" (Never Lies on the old version) bored me first few times around, but for some reason I like it a lot more now. "Just Might Be OK" and "Sunshine" (leaked as You My) are back too, as is "American Terrorist" (Close Your Mind the first time) and they sound a lot better here. Being a finished album, it all fits together pretty well now.

There's problems here and there, those being that Lupe Fiasco is just flat-out boring sometime. He's not quite to the point of being able to stay consistant with interesting things to say. With the length of some of the songs, this gets pretty unbearable. The only guest rapper on here is Jay-Z on "Pressure" and it's not the best thing either. Maybe if the song was shorter or the beat wasn't so dull this would be cool, but at this point it's just kinda there. "Kick, Push II" is also the most unnecessary thing ever. Actually, that twelve minute outro is.

When it comes down to it, Food & Liquor is pretty alright. It's not going to change the world or anything, but I'll happily listen to the first eight songs, especially "Daydreamin'" which is probably one of my favorite songs this year. I wonder if the 12" has this cool cover art. I'd buy it.

Since the beginning of school two weeks ago, I haven't been able to get much music in and it's been bumming me out hard. So excited to just sit and listen to music non stop for the next few days. Best playlist for today so far:

Ace of Spades - Motörhead
Tied Down - Negative Approach

Raw Power - The Stooges
Demo - Spanish Bombs
The Moon And Antarctica - Modest Mouse
Damned Damned Damned - The Damned

Music rules.

How Fucking Good Is This Record?

Seriously. I'll ignore it for awhile, or I'll listen to "TROY" a few times and then move on to someting else, but sometimes I just gotta stop and put this on. There's multiple examples of hip-hop perfection on it. "Lots Of Lovin," "Straighten It Out," "Can't Front On Me"... What's to hate? That Tom Scott sample in "TROY" fucking kills me everytime. This would be a beyond perfect record if it wasn't for all the songs being a bit on the long side.

Rick Ross - Port Of Miami

So Port of Miami leaked yesterday, and I gotta say that it's way better than I could've expected. Rick Ross is definitely not going for pop hits with this album. I can't see a lot of this easily getting MTV play, since a lot of the songs are filled with a ridiculous amount of drug references.

After a short intro, the album kicks off with "Push It," which is about... Pushing things to the limit. It's pretty obvious what things Ross is pushing. Regardless, this is seriously the most fitting way to open up this record. Sampling that stupid "Push It to the Limit" song from Scarface, it sets the tone of what you're in for in the next hour and seventeen minutes. Is it a little cheesy to for a Miami drug dealer to use music from the Scarface soundtrack? Yeah. Does it rule anyway? You bet your fucking ass it does.

The first two singles are next and in a row, so you've probably already heard those. "Blow (ft Dre)" is alright, but pretty forgetable when you put it up against "Hustlin," which is still pretty cool. It's the next few songs that are worth discussing.

First off, let me just state that I hate fucking hate Akon. I don't know his deal, but you don't sound cool or street when you sing like that. Regardless of his annoying ass, "Cross That Line" is real good. It'd make a way better next single than "Push It," but may not be the best idea since it'll only re-enforce those Jeezy comparisons. It doesn't matter though, because the next song blows it out of the fucking water. "I'm Bad" samples what I think is from S.W.A.T. It rules though, so fire up soulseek or something.

The next five songs suck and I have skipped them every time after listenting to them twice. "Where My Money (I Need That)" is worth mentioning though for it's so bad-its-good hook (Mi mi mi mi mi mizzle Where my money? I need-I nee-I nee-I need cash). Since it sounds like a totally shitty cross between "Hustlin" and Lil Wayne's "Money On My Mind," I'm going to guess that this is produced by the Runners.

After those shitty five songs in the middle, everything runs well and is worth listening to. "Pots and Pans" has a pretty cool hook about baking soda and pots and pans, and the "Hustlin'" remix still rules and the Hova verse is still not as bad as whiners like to say. "I'm A G" is probably the best song of the last half, but I might just think that because of Weezy F Baby's hook (including the line "I wear the gun like a girdle/bullet proof car got me feelin like a turtle (WHAT THE FUCK?)) and his verse is pretty cool.

So yeah. It's not a mind blowing record, but I doubt anyone expected that. I'm into it. Worth checking out.

Quick Note About the Name

The name comes from the title of a Slapshot song. I've never been a fan (I like Last Rights and NFX way more), but I thought it'd be kinda funny to use it anyway.

Here's some sample lyrics:

Take your turntables and throw them away
Crossover Sucks, Crossover Sucks
Hip hop and hardcore, that's so fucking gay
Crossover Sucks, Crossover Sucks

Spoing

Let's try this shit again.
